Man faces gun charges

Police have arrested a 23-year-old Suffolk man and charged him with drug and firearms charges after a Thursday homicide, but the killing still is under investigation.

Rasheed Leitiff David, 23, is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of a stolen firearm.

He is not charged with the homicide.

Investigation has revealed a group of unknown suspects drove to the 300 block of Hunter Street to confront David at his girlfriend’s residence, according to a news release from city spokeswoman Diana Klink.

“There was an exchange of gunfire between the parties,” she wrote.

Diana Yvette Jones, 28, was killed while she sat on a covered porch in the 300 block of Hunter Street. Veronica Wiggins-Ingram, 42, who was sitting with her, suffered a gunshot wound to her shoulder and was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she was listed in good condition Thursday evening.

David currently is being held in Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.

Anyone who has information on the homicide is asked to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. Callers to Crime Line never have to give their names or appear in court, and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
