NRHS girls trounce OSHS
The Nansemond River High School girls’ tennis team shut out host Oscar Smith High School on Thursday, winning 9-0. The Lady Tigers were held to 21 games won compared to the Lady Warriors’ 96.
Singles results were as follows:
- Casey Wood (NR) d. Odenwald (OS), 6-0, 6-1
- Malaika Karriem (NR) d. McCall (OS), 6-4, 6-0
- Krysta Jewette (NR) d. Cadey (OS), 6-0, 6-0
- Heather Davis (NR) d. Martin (OS), 6-3, 6-2
- Katherine Emberton (NR) d. Isbell (OS), 6-2, 6-1
- Jynasia Sadler (NR) d. Spruill (OS), 6-1, 6-0
Doubles results were as follows:
- Wood-Emberton (NR) d. Odenwald-McCall (OS), 8-0
- Karriem-Jewette (NR) d. Martin-Isbell (OS), 8-5
- Davis-Brooke Street (NR) d. Cadey-Spruill (OS), 8-2
Great Bridge High School will visit Nansemond River next Tuesday.
NSA cannot fell Mighty Oaks
The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy boys’ tennis team suffered a narrow 5-4 home loss on Thursday to Norfolk Collegiate School, the team currently ranked No. 2 in the state among Division II schools by the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association. The Saints are currently No. 6.
NSA’s No. 1 player Corey Cutright and No. 5 player and eighth-grader Nathan Pharr were the only on the team to find success in the singles matches. The Saints proved more dominant in doubles, however.
