A third candidate has announced he will face off against two others in a “firehouse primary” set for May 9.
Bill Haley will run for the Republican nomination for the 14th District Senate seat being vacated by Harry Blevins due to retirement. The other contenders are Delegate John Cosgrove of Chesapeake and J. Christopher Stearns, chairman of Virginia’s Third District Republican Committee.
Haley says on his website he endorses the principles of the tea party.
Voters in the Airport, Whaleyville, Pittmantown, Kilby’s Mill, Holland and Lakeside precincts are eligible to participate in the canvass. Portions of the White Marsh, Lake Cohoon and Elephant’s Fork/Westhaven precincts are also in the 14th District, meaning voters in those precincts should check to make sure they are in the 14th District before heading to the polling place.
The special voting place for all Suffolk voters in this canvass is the Lee-Jordan Club House, 1709 Pitchkettle Road. Voting will be held from 5 to 8 p.m.
