William Goodman, a senior at Nansemond River High School, will be honored for his academic performance May 18 by The Hampton Roads Committee of 200+ Men Inc.
Goodman, a guard on the school’s basketball team, has signed a letter of intent to attend and play for Virginia Wesleyan College next year.
He will be honored during the 16TH annual 200+ Scholars Breakfast, an event that honors black males for the academic achievements. More than 6,000 attendees at the event have been honored since 1998, and they have been awarded more than $13 million in scholarships that were announced at the breakfast.
The honorees and their guests and hosts have heard from a variety of motivational and inspirational speakers through the years, including Pulitzer Prize winners, college presidents, news anchors and others.
