NRHS girls’ tennis sets school record

Nansemond River’s girls’ tennis team concluded its regular season on Friday with a 7-2 win over Great Bridge High School.

The Lady Warriors’ record was the best since entering Group-AAA competition and helped them finish in third place in the district.

Friday’s singles results were as follows:

  • Wright (GB) def. Wood (NR), 6-7, 7-6, 10-8
  • Karriem (NR) def. Benzaken (GB), 6-1, 6-4
  • Jewette (NR) def. Lane (GB), 7-6, 0-6, 10-8
  • Davis (NR) def. Leone (GB), 6-3, 6-4
  • Emberton (NR) def. Travis (GB), 6-3, 7-6
  • Biddle-Ilseley (GB) def. Street (NR) 6-2, 1-6, 10-4

Doubles results were as follows:

  • Wood-Emberton (NR) def. Wright-Benzaken (GB), 7-6, 3-6, 10-5
  • Karriem-Jewette (NR) def. Leone-Matthews (GB), 5-7, 6-1, 10-3
  • Davis-Street (NR) def. Lane-Biddle-Ilsley (GB), 6-2, 6-4

Nansemond River has players competing in the Southeastern District tournament this week at Old Dominion University and tomorrow at the Howard Mast Tennis Complex located in Suffolk behind Farm Fresh on Holly Lawn Parkway.
