To the editor:
Fifty years ago this month, one of the finest law enforcement officers who ever lived was brutally shot in Isle of Wight County. The manhunt that ensued was joined by all local law enforcement agencies.
Harold C. Taylor, Sheriff of Isle of Wight, was critically wounded, but he survived and went on to live a very productive life from his wheelchair. He died a few years ago, but he never lost his sense of humor and dedication to God, family and friends.
He was a close friend to me and all who knew him. His favorite hymn was “Farther Along,” and he was joyous when they sang it in church.
We should pay tribute to this fine man and his family, who all gave so much.
