Graduations, dean’s lists announced

Students graduate from Mary Washington

Three Suffolk students were among 1,273 graduating from the University of Mary Washington on May 10-11.

Kelsey L. Williams graduated with a Master of Science degree in elementary education.

Brooke N. Parker graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. She received Departmental Honors in history.

Chelsea W. Heimann graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology.

Dr. William “Bill” Cleveland Bosher Jr., public policy expert and former Virginia superintendent of education, delivered the commencement address for master’s candidates on Friday, May 10. Steve Pemberton, business executive, motivational speaker and noted author, gave the undergraduate commencement address on Saturday, May 11.

Six graduate from Saint Paul’s College

Six from Suffolk graduated from Saint Paul’s College on Saturday, May 11, with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.

Crystal Artis, Lareika Bailey, Sheila Hill, Lakisha Jefferson and Rebecca Skinner graduated with honors. Audrey Sawyer also received a degree.

Artis, Jefferson and Skinner also were inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society during a ceremony held at the college on May 10.

Willis graduates from Hampden-Sydney

Benjamin Jordan Willis was among the 191 men who graduated on Sunday, May 12, at commencement exercises marking the end of the 238th academic year at Hampden-Sydney College.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and history. A graduate of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, he is the son of Leslie and Cyndee Willis of Suffolk.

Fleury graduates from Bob Jones

Suffolk resident Taylor Fleury was among the more than 800 students who graduated from Bob Jones University earlier this month.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Christian ministries during the university’s 86th commencement exercises. He also was named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2013 semester, indicating he earned at least a 3.0 grade-point average.

CNU announces dean’s list

Christopher Newport University is pleased to announce the Dean’s List for the spring 2013 semester. These honor students are enrolled in at least 12 credit hours, have earned no final grade below C, and have earned a grade-point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

From Carrollton are Diamond Fenner, Laura Genevish and Kaitlyn Kent.

From Suffolk are Katelyn Brown, Erin Clark, Katharine Clarke, Laura Ellison, Chelsea Hall, Inhye Hong, Breanne Lowe, Devon Nelson, Luke Rockswold and Erycka Spears.

Haynes named to dean’s list at Bob Jones

Joshua Haynes, a junior health major from Suffolk, was among more than 1,500 Bob Jones University students included on the Dean’s List at Bob Jones University for grades achieved during the Spring 2013 semester. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a 3.0 grade-point average.

McIntosh makes dean’s list

Jessica McIntosh, of Suffolk, has been named to the 2013 Dean’s List at Randolph College in Lynchburg.
