An alleged game of cards caught the attention of police Saturday when they got a call to the 400 block of Wellons Street.
The initial call, around 5:45 p.m., was for a person with a gun, city spokeswoman Debbie George said. When police arrived, they noticed several people in and around a shed, where a table with cards and money and a board listing people who owed money were set up.
The police department’s Neighborhood Enforcement Team executed a search warrant on the residence and recovered suspected crack cocaine, more evidence of illegal gambling and about $250 in cash, George said.
Alexander Croker, 63, was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and running a gambling enterprise.
Arrested for illegal gambling were Shenicka Liyanda Simmons, 33; William Floyd Wright, 54; Christopher Burchell Rodgers, 30; and Gary Lewis Boykins, 51.
