A man accused of molesting a teenage boy nearly three decades ago has court appearances in Suffolk and Virginia Beach set for next week.
Robert Vance Gallup, 60, is charged in Suffolk with 15 counts of forcible sodomy, 15 counts of sexual abuse of a child between the ages of 13 and 15 and 15 counts of sexual abuse of a child in a custodial or supervisory relationship.
He is charged in Virginia Beach with three counts of forcible sodomy, three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child and three counts of aggravated sexual battery.
According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, an alleged victim contacted the department to report he had been sexually abused by the suspect numerous times during the mid-1970s and mid-1980s. The Virginia Beach police investigated the case jointly with the Suffolk Police Department.
The indictments by the Suffolk grand jury pertain only to acts that allegedly occurred between May 1985 and June 1986, when the victim was 14 and 15 years old. Dates listed on the Virginia Beach court system indicate those offenses allegedly occurred between 1976 and 1984.
Gallup has a prior conviction in Suffolk of appearing nude in a public place from 1996.
A news release from the Virginia Beach police says Gallup lives in Suffolk, but court records give addresses in Virginia Beach and Lexington.
According to the Virginia Beach police, detectives from that city’s Special Victims Unit “feel that there may be additional victims.” Anyone with information or who may have been a victim is asked to call the Virginia Beach Detective Bureau at 385-4101 and speak with a Special Victims Unit detective.
Gallup is due in court in Suffolk May 28 and in Virginia Beach on May 30.
