“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” —Isaiah 55: 8-9

The faithful among us often find solace in these words during times of indescribable tragedy and human suffering. Since the beginning of man’s time on earth, we have questioned why God would allow such things to transpire as what has taken place in Oklahoma and other tornado ravaged areas of our country this week.

And for many, it is only our faith that God has a plan grander than what our earthly minds can comprehend that allows us to deal with such times of sorrow and despair.

We have all, at one time or another, been dealt a blow that seems greater than what we can bear, be it a natural disaster or personal tragedy. Yet our human condition compels us to pick ourselves up, dust off and move on with hope for a better tomorrow and a brighter future.

We find ourselves once again questioning the world in which we live and why evil and destructive forces, both natural and supernatural, continue to bring death and destruction to our lives, especially when they visit themselves upon the most innocent and vulnerable among us.

And we also find ourselves again clinging to the hope that God, despite what often appears to be evidence to the contrary, is still holding us in the palm of His hand. It is in that spirit that we keep the victims of this week’s disasters in our thoughts and most sincere prayers.
