The Suffolk PTA/PTSA Council bestowed several accolades during its awards dinner at Hillpoint Elementary School last Thursday.
The annual tradition is where the council’s 18 member parent-teacher associations come together to honor their volunteer work, council president Leila Baccouche-Nadeau stated.
Administrator of the Year went to Bethanne Bradshaw, public information officer with Suffolk Public Schools; Outstanding Increase in Membership went to Florence Bowser Elementary PTA, while Hillpoint Elementary School PTA won Comeback Unit of the Year.
Meanwhile, Outstanding Local PTA Unit went to Creekside Elementary School PTA for the third year in a row, while Southwestern PTA District Director Lemuel K. Jones won the Volunteer of the Year Award.
Step group KAOSS opened the awards dinner, which also included door prizes.
Made up of students from the city’s public elementary and middle schools, the KAOSS was “truly spellbinding,” Baccouche-Nadeau wrote in an email.
The dinner was attended by several members of the School Board and Suffolk City Council, school district Superintendent Deran Whitney, and other school administrators, staff members and PTA boards, Baccouche-Nadeau stated.
