God saw her getting tired — a cure not meant to be. So He put His arms around her and whispered, “Come to Me.”

Elder Queenie Copeland Kindred entered eternal rest on May 28, 2013, at her residence after a lengthy illness.

Queenie was born in Nansemond County, (now Suffolk), on Jan. 28, 1937, to the union of Tom and Sadie Copeland. She is a graduate of East Suffolk High School. She continued her education at the Virginia University of Lynchburg, where she received her Certificate in Ministry. However, her most treasured degree was her B.A. degree. “Born again Child of the King.” She was ordained to preach the Gospel in November of 1993.

Elder Kindred was a faithful, dutiful member of Kings’ Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church. She preached the word every third Sunday until her health failed her. Even in her sickness, she persevered to bring the message on Christmas morning of 2012. She had a special concern for lost souls and would visit throughout her community seeking to save souls and pray for the sick. She was a prayer warrior; her prayers were powerful and made the hearer feel the Holy Spirit. Additionally, Mother Kindred faithfully cooked breakfast for her church family during our morning prayer breakfast until her health began to fail.

Elder Kindred dedicatedly served her church in many other roles. She taught the Young Adult Sunday School Class, was a founding member of both the Missionary and Pastor’s Aid Departments, served as the church secretary for many years, and was a past member of the senior choir.

Additionally, Elder Kindred was the general mother for the Pentecostal Holiness General Union. She often taught the importance of being a loving homemaker and was a role model for Christian women. She was a dedicated wife and mother and proclaimed the importance of these duties. Elder Queenie was also an active member of the Ministers’ Wives and Windows Organization. She held various offices and planned many beautiful banquets. She believed that all should be done to the glory of God.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Bishop John H. Kindred; six daughters, Janet K. Harrell (James), Sharon K. Holliman (Harvey ), Cassandra K. Burks, Jennifer K. Taylor (James), Stephanie K. Henderson (Tracy); one son, Virgil E. Kindred (Angela); 11 grandchildren, Zenaida, Walter, Tabitha, Lakiesha, Adrian, Jodi, Joshua, Jessica, Jamal, Alexsia and Zachara; four sisters, Minnie Holly, Edna Skeeter, Margaret Boone and Gloria Deloatch; two brothers, Thomas Copeland and David Copeland; two brother-in-laws, Dec. Earl T. Kindred and Dec. Nathaniel Kindred; two sister-in-laws, Ernestine Ricks and Ruth White; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

It’s a blessing knowing the Lord has said, “Well Done Queenie, Well Done.”

A home going service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 10 a.m. at King’s Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will take place at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
