A Suffolk woman has been charged with animal cruelty after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals checked on her two dogs and allegedly found they did not have food or water.
Danyelle Johnson Saunders, 38, turned herself in at Suffolk Police Department headquarters Thursday.
PETA claimed that one of the dogs’ water bowls contained feces, and that one of the dogs was very thin and his ribs and hip bones were visible. Saunders surrendered the dog to PETA, which took the dog to a vet. The pup allegedly was diagnosed with hookworms and whipworms and was about 20 to 25 pounds underweight.
The organization obtained a warrant against Saunders.
