Thelma R. Spivey

Thelma “Marie” Raines Spivey, 87, passed away July 10, 2013, at Lake Prince Woods in Suffolk. She was the widow of James Butler Spivey Sr. and the daughter of the late Lurl Alexander and Nettie Louise Raines. She was also predeceased by her sister, Margret Howell; and brother, Alton Raines.

She was a charter member of Wilroy Baptist Church in Suffolk. She was currently attending Greenlakes Baptist Church and was active in the Sunday school class. Marie retired from Columbia Gas Company after many years of service.

Survivors include her son, James B. Spivey Jr. and wife, Cherie, of Martinsville; daughters, Susan Boyce and husband, Ronald, of Suffolk, and Melanie Sawyer and husband, David, of Wildwood, Mo.; grandchildren, Steven J. Spivey, MD and Mallori Boyce; sister, Martha Jean Milteer; and a brother, Randolph A. Raines Sr.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday July 14, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, by the Rev. Dwight Buchholz and Randy Raines with entombment in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
