The Suffolk Youth Athletic Association’s Pinto Firestorm All-Star softball team celebrates after emerging as the victors of a marathon Sunday tournament. The Smithfield Summer Blast at Beale Park originally included Friday and Saturday games, but rain forced the Firestorm into playing four games in one day. The team lost its first game by one run to a squad from the Southern Chesapeake Athletic Association, but won the next three, including a re-match with SCAA in the championship. The final score was 9-8.

“I think all the teams that we play, everybody is getting better, so the games are very competitive, and it was great to see the girls just fight through it,” Firestorm head coach Tara Worley said.

The SYAA team will play in the East Zone National Tournament next weekend, which could be its last, though a bid to a bigger tournament will be on the line. The East Zone tourney will be hosted by the SCAA.
