Suspects named in weekend shooting

Suffolk police have identified two suspects they say may have been involved in Saturday night’s shooting on Wellons Street and are asking for the public’s assistance in locating them.
Taquan Burton, 19, and Gwendolyn Burton-Green, 40, have each been charged with aggravated malicious wounding, shooting in the commission of a felony, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and shoot, stab, cut or wound, according to a press release from the city.
The suspects are mother and son, city spokesman Timothy Kelley said.
The victim, 20-year-old Trovias Mayfield, was shot about 10:40 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Wellons Street. He was taken by ground ambulance to Sentara Obici Hospital and then airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
After undergoing surgery that night, he remained in the Intensive Care Unit in the Norfolk hospital on Monday. He is listed in stable condition.
Both suspects should be considered armed and dangerous, according to the city’s press release.
