Suffolk police arrested both suspects in a recent shooting on Tuesday after their names and photos were released to the media.
Gwendolyn Burton-Green, 40, was arrested about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday following a tip from a member of the public, city spokeswoman Diana Klink said.
Her 19-year-old son, Taquan Burton, turned himself in later Tuesday after learning that his mother had been arrested.
Both are being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail with no bond. They each are charged with shooting in the commission of a felony, use of display of a firearm in the commission of a felony, malicious shooting and aggravated malicious wounding.
The victim, 20-year-old Trovias Mayfield, was shot about 10:40 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Wellons Street. He was listed in fair condition on Tuesday afternoon.
“Suffolk Police would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance following the release of photos for a mother and son believed to be involved in the shooting of Trovias Mayfield on Saturday evening,” the press release stated.
