A 58-year-old man died Saturday night when the bicycle he was riding on Bennetts Pasture Road was hit by a vehicle.

The male driver reported the accident to emergency operators at 10:56 p.m. He told dispatchers he had hit a man on a bicycle in the 5200 block of Bennetts Pasture, according to a news release from the police department.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue and emergency medical personnel responded, but the victim was pronounced deceased at 11:13 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Colin Dean Collins, 58, of Suffolk.

The bicycle had no lights on it, according to the news release. No charges have been placed against the driver of the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.
