Continental Terminals is expanding its operations in Suffolk after moving to the city in 2012.
The company will purchase an additional 3.7 acres adjacent to its current site at 1394 Progress Road in the Wilroy Industrial Park, the city said in a press release Wednesday.
The company sorts, stores and blends coffee. Last year, it invested $2.7 million to purchase and outfit its existing 70,000-square-foot building, and it also operates a 60,000-square-foot facility nearby.
The company has been around since 1958 and works closely with J.M. Smucker Co., Massimo Zanetti and Green Mountain Coffee, all of which have locations in Suffolk or Isle of Wight County.
The Economic Development Authority approved a $100,000 Economic Development Investment Program grant after discussing the issue in a closed meeting Wednesday. The money will be paid in phases upon completion of the project, according to the press release.
