To the editor:

How can city of Suffolk bill $1.2 million to city residents for a volunteer emergency medical services agency — Nansemond Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad — that city officials now want to shut down?

This squad has served Suffolk for 53 years. Our city manager and mayor should be ashamed of themselves.
