Roy Rogers Jernigan, 71, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Aug. 28, 2013. He was born in Nansemond County, the son of the late William Herbert Jernigan and Olif Odell Harrell Gay. He was predeceased by his sister, Mamie Arrowood. He retired as a foreman from Ferguson Manufacturing Company. He was a member of the Suffolk Moose Lodge No. 141.

Roy is survived by his wife of 45 years, Charlotte Marie Jernigan; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa Richardson, Debbie and Roger Smith, Carol and John Cooke; stepchildren, Vicky Askew and husband, Freddy, Brad Winborne and wife, Tami, and Wayne Winborne; grandchildren, Amber Richardson, Adam Carter, Sarah Smith, Katie and Andrew Cooke; seven stepgrandchildren; great-grandchild, Jaycee Smith; six step-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, William “Monk” and Carolyn Jernigan and Gerald and Ann Jernigan; sister-in-law, Faye Babb; brother-in-law, Buddy McClenny and wife, Wanda; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Larry Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday night from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association at P.O.
