Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • David Gough, junior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football: He ran the ball 14 times on Friday night against Christchurch School, resulting in 112 yards and three touchdowns en route to a 44-7 Saints home opening victory. His touchdowns came on 6-, 1- and 12-yard runs.
  • Summer Parker, senior for Lakeland High School field hockey: She scored the 100th goal of her high school career in Wednesday’s road game against Oscar Smith High School and then added three more goals to help the Lady Cavaliers win 8-0 in the mercy rule-abbreviated contest.
  • Latrell Sandifer, senior for Nansemond River High School football: Despite the loss to Grassfield High School on Friday night, he frequently engineered runs with impressive cuts and speed, helping to fuel and sustain Warriors possessions and keeping his team in the game. He ended up with 17 carries for 136 yards.
  • Deshaun Wethington, sophomore for King’s Fork High School football: He got most of his work done early Friday night against Woodrow Wilson High School, scoring on the Bulldogs’ first play from scrimmage via a 36-yard run, and later in the first quarter from one yard out. He ended up with 78 yards on 11 carries.
