William Donald Vann

Mr. William Donald Vann (Duck), of 820 Seminole Drive, Suffolk, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, in Sentara Obici Hospital.
He was an employee of Kraft Foods (Planters Peanuts) for 51 years. He also operated and owned Duck’s Body Shop for more than 25 years and worked with Boone Paint Shop for many years. He was a member and current vice president of the Suffolk Boosters Club for more than 30 years and member of Local Union No. 26 for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Margaret Harris Vann; one son, Donald Anton Vann; and two daughters, Shaundra and Lisa Peebles; one sister, Barbara Williams, of Portsmouth; one brother, Charles Lewis, also of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Adriana Peebles, Adrian Peebles, Christopher Hearn Jr. and Gabrielle Saunders; and two great-grandchildren, Aidan Peebles and Anica Peebles.
He is also survived by his aunt, Minerva Hall; sisters-in-law, Catherine Harris and Connie Harris, both of Suffolk; devoted nieces, Shawndell Harris and Michelle Harvey, also of Suffolk; along with a host of other loving relatives and many friends. He will be especially missed by his life-long friends, Tim McCray, of New Haven, Conn., Wilbur Holland, Charles Jackson, both of Suffolk, and William Nichols, of Portsmouth.
He was predeceased by his mother, Atline Strachan; mother-in-law, Sarah L. Harris; grandfather, William Vann; and sister, Sally Ann Vann.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at noon at Tabernacle Christian Church, 2500 E. Washington St., Suffolk. The Rev. Jarvis Jones will be officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Carver Memorial Cemetery, 2320 E. Washington St., Suffolk. Visitation will be on Friday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home Inc., 685 Carolina Road, Suffolk. Harris Funeral Home has been entrusted with the home going service.
