Virginia Baines Johnson

KERNERSVILLE — Virginia Baines Johnson, 82, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013. She was born Oct. 15, 1931, in Suffolk, to the late Gurney and Martha Taylor Baines.

Mrs. Johnson attended Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. Virginia went back to school at the age of 49, after raising her five children, and graduated at the age of 51 to begin her professional career and worked until retirement.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gurney Dean Baines.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Earl Randolph Johnson, of the home; her five children, E.R. (Randy) Johnson Jr., Tracy Ann Handy, Mark Taylor Johnson and wife, Gerri, Lori J. Martin, Kimberly J. Martin and husband, Gregory; seven grandchildren, Megan and Russell Grose, Caroline and Rachel Handy, Brandon and Dillon Kiger, and Travis Martin; three great-grandchildren, Haylie, Johnson and Ava Kiger.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Rorie officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Bunker Hill United Methodist Church in memory of Virginia Johnson, 1510 Bunker Hill – Sandy Ridge Road, Kernersville, NC 27284 or Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
