Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s girls’ volleyball team was not going to miss out on the conference tournament crown like it did last year. This year, the Lady Saints made it to championship game and soundly defeated defending state champions Peninsula Catholic High School on Saturday night in straight sets.
“Our girls probably played one of their best matches of the season as far as executing our game plan, and it was really fun to watch,” NSA head coach Robyn Ross said.
In front of a packed house, the Lady Saints put on a show for the home crowd, resulting in game scores of 25-9, 25-9, 25-16.
Senior outside hitter Kaylor Nash had a double-double with 10 kills, 11 digs and nine aces. As she did on Thursday, junior middle blocker Caylin Harris led the team in kills, this time with 12, and had three blocks, while junior setter/libero Bridget Murphy registered 15 digs.
Making the 2013 TCIS All-Tournament Team were Nash, who was named Most Valuable Player for the tournament, Harris and junior setter Brooks Gillerlain.
Nansemond-Suffolk (33-2) will host Norfolk Christian High School on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for the opening round of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II state tournament.
