Dr. Lloyd Charles March Jr., 92, retired dentist and developer, passed away peacefully on Nov. 5, 2013, at his home in Suffolk, surrounded by his loving family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd C. and Gladys Savage March, his first wife Mary Virginia Walker March, and his sisters, Helen Guy and Jessie Franklin March.

Lloyd will forever be remembered by his devoted sisters, Betty Raby and Barbara Lauman. He is survived by wife, June Oxley March, and his children, Lloyd C. “Chuck” March III, of Asheville, N.C., Susan March Payne (Robert), of Charlotte, N.C., Mary Lynn Yost (Basil), of Flat Rock, N.C., Ann Courtney Hill (Paul), of Washington, N.C., Roger Warren March (Indira), of Greensboro, N.C., and stepson, Mark Steiner, of Virginia Beach. He will be lovingly remembered by eight grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Lloyd was graduated from Chuckatuck High School, the College of William and Mary and the Medical College of Virginia.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later established a dental practice in Suffolk in 1948. In 1974, Dr. March retired from dentistry and continued his interest in property development. He was instrumental in the founding of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church and the Kiwanis Club.

Dr. March was known for his generosity and kind spirit. He was a quiet, humble man and a loving father, husband and brother who will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Nansemond-Suffolk Academy or to the Mary Virginia Walker Scholarship Fund at Elon University in care of Suffolk Christian Church, P.O. Box 1457, Suffolk, VA 23439.

A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Rebecca P. Lesley and the Rev. Michael D. Halley in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suffolk, with a reception following at 3 p.m. at Lake Prince.
