Lady Saints return to state finals

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s girls’ volleyball team punched its ticket for a second consecutive trip to the VISAA Division II state championship on Friday.
The Lady Saints topped Hampton Roads Academy 25-15, 25-22, 25-8 in the state semifinals at Fredericksburg Christian School.
Senior outside hitter Kaylor Nash poured in 13 kills, 11 digs and seven aces, while junior middle blocker Caylin Harris added 12 kills and junior libero/setter Bridget Murphy had 27 digs. Junior setter Brooks Gillerlain handed out 37 assists.
The win extends Nansemond-Suffolk winning streak to 30 matches. The span includes a 2-0 win over Fredericksburg Christian, which the Lady Saints will now play for the state championship. The prior match was part of the Flint Hill Invitational, and NSA claimed it with game scores of 25-21 and 25-18.
The Lady Saints reached the state finals last year against Peninsula Catholic High School, going up 2-0, before dropping the final three sets.
Fredericksburg Christian will host the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II state title match today at 10 a.m.
