Suffolk artist gets purchase award

Suffolk artist Tommie K. Dudley’s painting of a scene from the Nansemond Indian Tribe’s annual powwow was one of four chosen from several hundred to be on permanent display at the Hampton Roads Convention Center.

The convention center purchased four works of art from among the entries to its 12th annual juried exhibition, which is on display at the center in Hampton through May 9.

However, Dudley’s painting, titled “Our American Heritage: The Native American,” will be on display indefinitely.

The painting features a dancer at the powwow in traditional garb.

The exhibition can be viewed at the convention center, 1610 Coliseum Drive, Hampton.
