Popular pageant seeks contestants

The Nansemond River Pilot Club is shooting to raise as much money as possible during its next go-round of the Womanless Beauty Pageant.
Thirteen years of the event so far have raised more than $90,000 for the American Cancer Society, the Pilot Club’s Becky Adams said.
“We’re trying to get over the $100,000 mark, which I don’t think we’re going to have a problem with that,” she said.
One problem so far, however, is contestants for the Jan. 25 event. So far, only four men have signed up to kick up their high-heeled shoes, and the club would like to get at least six more contestants for an even 10, Adams said.
Sponsorships also are needed to defray the cost of putting on the pageant, “so we can send as much profit to the American Cancer Society as we can,” Adams said.
The event will be held at the National Guard Armory, 2761 Godwin Blvd. Dinner will be provided by Carrabba’s Italian Grill, and tickets are $20 for dinner and the show.
“It’s a great night of fun and fellowship and laughter, but it’s all for a good cause,” she said.
