Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Austin Wall, senior for King’s Fork High School football: He drilled a phenomenal 42-yard field goal as time expired Friday night, resulting in the visiting Bulldogs toppling No. 1 Phoebus High School 17-14 in the regional quarterfinals. He did that moments after a Phantoms timeout meant to ice him and after nailing a 37-yarder that was negated by a false-start penalty.
  • John Mobley, senior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy basketball: The promise he showed in pre-season practice translated into an outstanding performance on opening night. He led the Saints with 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 51-42 victory over host Denbigh Baptist Christian School on Friday, helping fuel a stifling NSA defense and victimizing the Minutemen in the paint.
  • Nathan Leiter, junior for Suffolk Christian Academy basketball: Win or lose during the season’s opening week, he was a consistent leader for the Knights. He led the team with 14 points in Tuesday’s 51-43 home win over Victory Christian School. And even though a furious fourth-quarter rally fell short, he poured in 21 points in Friday’s 61-55 road loss to Virginia Beach Friends School.
