Former Nansemond River High School basketball player Dontrell Brite has been putting up some impressive numbers this season for Mount Olive College in his sophomore year.
The Trojans opened their schedule with an 81-79 loss to Shaw University, but Brite still had a productive game, leading the team with a career-high 17 points to go with four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
He followed it up the next day with a 19-point performance on 50 percent shooting in a 73-67 win over Elizabeth City State University. In both games, the score was tied at halftime, but Brite and the Trojans were able to keep the Vikings at bay in the final 20 minutes to avoid going 0-2.
In an 81-78 win over Queens University of Charlotte on Nov. 16, Brite went into double figures again, scoring 16 points on 58 percent shooting, with seven assists, four rebounds and three steals.
After six games, the Trojans stand at 4-2 this season, and the former Warrior is averaging 11.3 points per game.
Mount Olive hosts Pfeiffer University on Wednesday.
