A business looking to liquidate its clothing inventory looked no further than needy children at a local school.

Dashiell’s Showroom, a hunting supply store at 1259 Carolina Road, donated about 40 items of clothing to Kilby Shores Elementary School to be distributed to people in the area.

“We’re actually getting out of the clothing part of the business,” said Lee Dixon, manager of the store. “We had a bunch of kids’ clothes. Instead of having a bunch of random different sizes, we figured it would be better off to donate it.”

Kilby Shores was chosen because of students Liam and Piper Shughrou, the children of regular customer Tim Shughrou.

“Liam and Piper … have been going through the doors of Dashiell’s their entire lives,” their father wrote in an email. “Piper has spent a small fortune in the entrance way gumball machine. Dashiell’s has also sponsored Liam’s hunting escapades and baseball team over the last couple of years.”

“Dashiell’s has always been a family-friendly hunting and fishing store,” Shughrou said. “They treat the community really well.”

Dixon said some of the coats, pants, boots and other gear have a camouflage print, but all of them are suitable for everyday wear, not just as hunting gear.

The items were delivered to school officials last week. Shughrou said the store also made a donation to a local coat drive.
