Portsmouth Christian got 15 points from Will Artis to top Isle of Wight Academy 42-31 in the Chargers’ Metro Athletic Conference opener Tuesday at Jester Gymnasium.

Artis scored eight of his points in the fourth quarter. He also had five points during a tense third-quarter stretch, which twice saw IWA crawl to within a point of the Patriots.

The Patriots outrebounded IWA 40 to 34 and shot field goals more efficiently, completing 34 percent from the field to IWA’s 23 percent. PCS also made good on 10-of-17 free throws; IWA was 9-for-23 from the line.
