Mr. Joseph Leroy Williams, affectionately known as “Pookie,” 53, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013. He was born on Nov. 28, 1960, to the late Walter and Vivian Williams in Suffolk.

Joseph graduated from Suffolk High School, class of 1979, and served in the United States Marine Corps. He was employed at Mike Duman Auto Sales for several years and graduated from The Aviation Institute of Maintenance in 2011.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Tillery Jr.

Joseph leaves behind to cherish his memory, a devoted wife, Alice Williams; one son, Joell Williams; six stepchildren, Eugene, Frederick, Danielle, Miniqua, Tyler and Dwayne; four step-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Tillery; one sister, Wanda Williams; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Williams’ visitation will take place on Friday from noon to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive guests at the residence of Ms. Wanda Williams, 416 Van Buren Ave., at all other times. A funeral service will take place on Saturday at noon at the funeral home chapel, and he will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
