Winston Michael Ricks, 58, of 409 Chestnut St., Franklin, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Suffolk and the son of Mary M. Ricks and the late Joel Webster Ricks. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Rikkayah Ricks, and brother, Pernell Ricks.

He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. He was employed at Smithfield Packing Company. Mr. Ricks was a member of Greater First Baptist Church Orlando, where he sang in the male chorus and was a member of the men’s fellowship ministry.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, LaVerne Ricks, of Providence, R.I.; daughter, Tyana T. Ricks, of Providence, R.I.; three sisters, Elois Johnson, the Rev. Betty Montgomery (Thomas) and Joyce R. Jones; two brothers, Clarence Ricks (Catherine) and Joel W. Ricks Jr.; grandson, Qu’Ran K. Ricks; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Greater First Baptist Church Orlando officiated by Pastor Moses Ware. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
