Doris Genolar Camen Lynch

Mrs. Doris Genolar Camen Lynch, affectionately known as “Sister Camen,” 81, of Suffolk, passed away Dec. 13, 2013, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Nansemond County.

Doris is predeceased by her mother, Kate N. Mazell Camen; her father, Herbert Camen; and her brother, Edward Camen.

She leaves to cherish her memory husband Lorther Lynch, of Norfolk Healthcare Center, Norfolk; two sons, Ennis Carlton Rawlings, of Suffolk, and Michael L. Powell, of Suffolk; three daughters, Edwina Rawlings, of Chesapeake, Brenda K. Rawlings Wright, of Richmond, and Arlene Rawlings Mothershed, of Suffolk; 10 grandchildren, Christopher C. Rawlings (Roslyn), of Norfolk, Anquinette F. Harville (Ray), of Baltimore, Md., Keifus L. Rawlings, of Charlotte, N.C., Ascari J. Rawlings, of Japan, Bernard M. Wright Jr. (Denise), of Bowie, Md.; Angela Y. Wright, of Charlotte, N.C., Ebony C. Lewis, of Newport News, Erin D. Rawlings, of Suffolk, DiVanta Jones, of Suffolk, and Mekel L. Powell, of Suffolk; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Letha Camen, of Roosevelt, N.Y.; one niece, two nephews, cousins and other family and friends.

Doris was a member of the Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church for 44 years, where she served as a missionary, deaconess, trustee emeritus and organizer/founder of the Food Bank Ministry. She was also a member of the Lott Carey Foreign Mission, Virginia Baptist State Convention and the Sharon Missionary Association and Allied Bodies. She was a long-term member and treasurer of the Saratoga/Philadelphia Civic League. She was also instrumental in organizing the Suffolk Bazaar/Flea Market.

A wake will take place on Dec. 19, 2013, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, 685 Carolina Road, Suffolk. The homegoing service will be held at Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church, 635 Brook Ave., Suffolk, on Dec. 20, 2013, at noon with Dr. John E. Jones officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Mazell Family Cemetery on Jackson Road, Suffolk.
