Mallory Cox of Suffolk helped spread holiday cheer as a member of the Brass Ensemble on Sunday, Dec. 8, by taking part in the Emory & Henry Music Department’s annual Christmas at Emory Concert.
The Concert Choir and Chamber Singers filled the Memorial Chapel with beautiful renditions of “Still, Still Night” arranged by Jackson Berkey, “What Sweeter Music” by John Rutter, “This Little Babe” by Benjamin Britten, and “Here is the Little Door” by Herbert Howells.
Organist Robert J. Greene Jr. was joined by brass ensembles in accompanying the carols sung by the choirs and congregation. The brass musicians entertained with seasonal hymns and fresh arrangements of classic Christmas music.
Dr. Matthew Frederick, along with Dr. Robert Matthews, helped lead the Emory & Henry students that participated in Christmas at Emory. Dr. Matthews is assistant professor of music and director of vocal and choral music. Dr. Frederick is chair of the Division of Visual and Performing Arts, associate professor of music, and director of instrumental music.
Chair of the Music Department at Emory & Henry College is Dr. Lisa Withers, associate professor of music and piano teacher.
