Michael Britt continued his efforts to help Suffolk’s youth through his non-profit organization Britt-Quinn Enterprise Inc. by putting on a successful community basketball event on Friday at the Salvation Army’s Robert W. Harrell Jr. Physical Health and Education Center on Bank Street.

“This really was to keep the kids occupied from the long holiday,” he said.

Britt was able to get plenty of young people involved with six youth teams to go with two adult squads. Despite the short notice, he estimated that 200 people came out, with the crowd being the largest during the early games featuring the younger players.

Britt-Quinn Enterprise Inc. president McArthur Britt was pleased with the impact of the event.

“This is great for the community,” he said. “I was shocked on a Friday seeing this many people come out.”

The adult teams, one of which was sponsored by Suffolk Parks and Recreation, included players who compete professionally and recent high school graduates like King’s Fork’s Byron Taylor, who currently attends and competes for Bryant and Stratton College.
