The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries is investigating after two hunting hounds were shot and killed by an “unknown subject” during a hunting expedition Saturday, according to city spokeswoman Diana Klink and a police report.
Following the incident, one owner found their dog lying dead, and the other hound died later of a gunshot would, Klink says.
“There were no witnesses,” she wrote in an email. “The incident remains under investigation.”
According to a Suffolk Police Department report, the incident occurred at Box Elder Road between 5 and 5:30 p.m.
The victims said their dogs were “shot by an unknown person,” the report states.
