Nellie Y. Mae Gray

Nellie Y. Mae Gray, 86, of Coastline Avenue in Suffolk, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Sentara Obici Hospital.

She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late Joshua Young and Annie Bell Young. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie James Gray Sr.

She was a member of Sixth Street Baptist Church, where she was a member of the senior choir, usher, and the East Bound Association. Mrs. Gray was a member of the Hollywood-Jericho Civic League.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Charlotte A. Gray of Suffolk; two sons, Willie James Gray Jr. (Evelyn) of Suffolk and Michael A. Gray (Helena) of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Sixth Street Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. John Moore. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will assemble at Crocker Funeral Home Saturday at 11:15 a.m. for the processional to the church.

There will be a visitation at Crocker Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, from 6 to 7 p.m.
