Fire at rural home extinguished

Suffolk firefighters extinguished a fire in a house on Simons Drive Friday evening.

The call to the residence in the 2200 block came in at 8:25 p.m. Rescue workers found moderate smoke showing from the two-story residence off Indian Trail and Old Myrtle Road, according to a press release from city spokeswoman Diana Klink.

The fire was called under control at 9:07 p.m. and was ruled accidental. A family of five, including three adults and two children, was displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

No one was injured, Klink said.
