The Virginia Senate voted to confirm Robert H. Sandwich Jr. to a term beginning Feb. 1 as a judge of the Fifth Judicial Circuit.
Sandwich was appointed to the bench in July by Gov. Bob McDonnell after the legislature failed to come to an agreement on whom to nominate.
Sandwich had spent six years in the Suffolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office and also had served in Portsmouth, Norfolk and Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s offices. He is a U.S. Navy veteran.
Eleven other judges throughout the state also were confirmed in the 38-0 vote.
