Alvin Lorenzo Bryant Sr.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 17, 2014, Alvin Lorenzo Bryant Sr. answered the call to enter his heavenly home. Affectionately known as “Mr. B,” Alvin was born on Sept. 8, 1952, in Nansemond County.
Alvin was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School and served in the U.S. Army. He entered into holy matrimony to Cora Boone-Bryant on Oct. 19, 1972 and they were blessed with four children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Bryant; two sisters, Patricia Pruden and Sylvia Bryant; and a grandson, C. Brehon Bryant.
Alvin leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Cora; four children, Africa (Kevin), Gwendolyn, Alvin Jr. and Calvin; six grandchildren, Destinee’, Ahmondre, Nakiyah, Nashawn, Alyssa and Sanna; two sisters, Carolyn Alston and Brenda Bryant; a brother-in-law, Daryl Washington (Renee’) and many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mr. Bryant will be on view at the funeral home today from noon to 7 p.m., and the family will receive guests from 6 to 7 p.m. A celebration of life service will take place at St. Paul RZUA Church on Wednesday at 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the T.E. Cooke-Overton Estate Garden of Carver Memorial Cemetery.
