Isle of Wight Academy gained a win in Metro Athletic Conference play on Friday, topping Hampton Christian 70-61.
Beaten by the Warriors in two previous meetings this season, IWA bounced back with a record-setting fourth quarter. Their 33 points during that period was their highest output of any in their previous 14 games.
Trailing 41-37 at the end of the third, it was also a key stretch for the Chargers. They scored the first 18 points of the fourth quarter to claim a 55-42 edge with 3:46 left.
Senior Gage Rogers had a season-high 14 points. Sophomore Bryce Casey led the way for IWA with 17 points and added 12 rebounds. Junior Adam Webb had nine points and nine rebounds.
Rebounding was a difference in this game, compared to the previous two. IWA outrebounded Hampton 41-33, including 15-8 on the Chargers’ offensive end.
Hampton Christian was led by BJ Moses and Evan Dougood, each with 24 points. No other Warriors were in double figures.
IWA ran its record to 4-11, 2-6 in Metro play.
