A high-scoring third quarter was all Denbigh Baptist needed to finish off Isle of Wight Academy 66-58 on Friday.
The Minutemen dismantled the home-standing Chargers 24-6 after halftime to take a 46-32 lead into the final period. Denbigh’s Sam Thomas, the Metro Athletic Conference’s leading scorer with 23.2 points per game coming into Friday’s contest, had 11 of his team’s 24 point during that decisive stretch.
In the first meeting this year between the two squads, IWA was led by sophomore Bryce Casey with 16 points. Senior Brandon Saxby pitched in 13 points.
In addition to Thomas’ 30 points, Denbigh got 21 from Aaron Barnes and 10 from Alex Lensch. Only one other player (Jeremy Brooker, 5 points) scored for the Minutemen.
IWA drops to 4-12, 2-7 in the Metro Conference.
