Suffolk’s chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority will hold a spicy, sauce-covered fundraiser on Friday for its Ebony Achievers program.

The program, which runs in the fall through the spring each year, involves high school seniors who take etiquette and dance classes, attend events together and have guest speakers.

“All the students in this program are seniors, so they’re going off to college next year,” said Deanna Johnson, chairperson for the Ebony Achievers program. “It’s a program where we try to give some mentorship and how to conduct yourself as young men and young women.”

Students recently graduated from college frequently speak at the program to “try to help them avoid some of the pitfalls of being a freshman,” Johnson said.

Guests at Friday’s Buffalo Wild Wings fundraiser can count part of their check toward the Ebony Achievers program. Guests are also asked to wear red in recognition of the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” campaign to bring attention to women’s heart disease. The Ebony Achievers’ project this week was to raise money for the American Heart Association, Johnson said.

The fundraiser at the restaurant, located at 7386 Harbour Towne Parkway, will run from 5 to 10 p.m. this Friday. Guests are welcome to show up anytime, Johnson said. The president of the chapter is Barbara Warren-Jones.
