A Northern Shores Elementary School fifth-grader has been suspended after allegedly bringing a knife on his school bus Tuesday morning, according to the city and the school district.

Another student told the bus driver about the knife while the bus was on Bennett’s Creek Park Road en route to Northern Shores, school district spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw stated in an email.

When the bus reached Northern Shores, the student with the knife handed it over to the principal, she said.

The student was suspended pending an administrative hearing, Bradshaw added.

City spokeswoman Diana Klink confirmed the incident on behalf of Suffolk Police Department, adding that the student was a boy and “the knife was never displayed in a threatening manner.”

Klink also described the knife as “small.”
