The Suffolk Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications through April 18 for the Virginia Sheriff’s Scholarship Program.
Eligible students must live in Suffolk and be majoring in criminal justice or law enforcement at a Virginia college or university. They must also meet with Sheriff Raleigh Isaacs Sr. after the completed application is returned to the sheriff’s office.
Applications from Suffolk will be forwarded to the Virginia Sheriff’s Institute for final judging, along with a letter of recommendation from Isaacs. Winners will be announced at the end of May, and scholarship checks will be mailed to the sheriff’s office for distribution. Checks will be made payable to the institution on the application. All applicants will receive a letter from the institute.
Funds for the program come from citizen and business memberships in the Virginia Sheriff’s Institute.
Applications are available at the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office, inside the Mills E. Godwin Jr. Courts Building, 150 N. Main St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Completed applications must be returned by 5 p.m. April 18.
