Tickets still are available for the American Red Cross’s Paint the Town Red event this Saturday at the Hilton Garden Inn on East Constance Road.

Guests will see celebrity waiters participate in challenges to raise money for the Red Cross. They’ll also enjoy dinner, live and silent auctions, a coffee bar by Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, the Hot House Band as live entertainment and a cash bar.

Best of all, the event will support the various initiatives of the Red Cross, which include relief after house fires and large-scale disasters, blood services, connecting military families, international relief and health and safety.

“You never know when you’re going to need us,” said Roxanne Kohlman of the Red Cross. “Supporting the Red Cross before you need us is imperative.”

This is the 16th year of the event, and Vanessa Coria of WVEC will be the mistress of ceremonies. Celebrity waiters include local disc jockeys and television reporters, as well as Mrs. Virginia International Cheryl Nelson — an apropos choice, considering her platform is disaster preparedness.

This is the 16th annual Paint the Town Red, and the event has become known for its fun waiter challenges, which have included contests to see who can sell the most paint sticks or toss the most balls into a bag.

Cocktail attire for the event is requested, and tickets are $55 each.

Kohlman said advance ticket sales are preferred, but “if they show up at the door, we’re not going to turn anybody away.”

The event will run from 6 to 11 p.m.
