No disciplinary action was taken after a John Yeates Middle School student inadvertently brought two bullets to school inside his father’s lunchbox, according to the school district and the city,

Citing a response from the city of Suffolk, an email from district spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw stated that two bullets rolled out when a student’s lunchbox fell to the floor in a classroom Wednesday.

“The student gave the bullets to a teacher,” the email stated. “According to the parents, the bullets belonged to the student’s father who had left them in his lunchbox and forgot they were in there. The lunchbox was taken to the school by the student, who didn’t know they were in there.”

Students and staff were never in any danger, according to the email, and police have declined criminal prosecution and closed the report on the incident.

The district decided against disciplining the student after a conference with the parents, according to Bradshaw.

According to a police incident report, the 40-caliber bullets were silver.
